First Resort on Kefalonia Developed for Tourism
When leaving the airport and before Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, the first resort with its splendid and well kept beaches, tavernas and gift shops, is Lassi. The resort of Lassi has five beautiful beaches, which form a golden fringe around a picturesque bay, with the softest sand lapped by crystal clear waters.
Lassi was one of the first resorts on Kefalonia to be developed for tourism and it is now the largest and the most commercial resort on the island. If you like all the usual essentials of a traditional Greek holiday – relaxing in the sun, great beaches, crystal blue sea, water sports, endless bars, tavernas as well as a wide range of eateries – then Lassi is ideal.
Lassi can get very busy during high season so if you prefer somewhere a little quieter, there are several other beaches close by, offering some quiet and peaceful coves, if you want to get away from the crowds and noise. There are also a number of local attractions within the resort itself, such as the cave of St Gerasimos (the patron saint of Kefalonia). The cave is where Gerasimos lived for five years when he first arrived on the island and there is now an old church next to the cave dedicated to him, the Church of Odos Spiliou Agios Gerasimou, filled with paintings and icons and well worth a visit.
